One way to increase your chances of working at home is to be open to making some sacrifices.  Rather than focusing on finding the perfect work at home job, think about changes you could make to widen the net.

Take a pay cut.

A recent Citrix Online report on “the World Wide Workplace” cited a forecast from Forrester Research that about 20 percent of employees would take a 5 percent pay cut for the right to work from home sometimes.  Some companies have telecommute policies that specify that employees who work from home will be paid less than their in-house counterparts.

Consider partial telecommuting

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.  Maybe your boss would be open to letting you work from home one or two days a week.  It’s a lot easier to convince an employer to let you do that than to try to sell the idea of full-time telecommuting.  Once you can show how much more productive you can be from home, you might be in a better position to pitch full-time telecommuting. For tips on how to sell the idea to your boss, see Don’t Quit Your Day Job! Convincing your boss to let you telecommute.

Consider relocating

If you have skills that are in demand in the telecommuting field, like web development for example, you might consider a move.  Many employers will allow you to telecommute but still want you to be nearby for occasional meetings- and many of them will pay for you to relocate.

Think outside the box and you just may find a way to work at home.

While exiting, remember it takes hard work.

    - Avoid any offer that promises you’ll make a lot of money for very little work.
    - Don’t rely on a money-back guarantee. Con artists rarely give money back.
    - Be wary of testimonials or endorsements.
    - See if the Better Business Bureau has a Reliability Report on the company.
    - Never give a credit card, debit card or checking account number to any person or company that promises employment. If they wantyou to pay them it’s a scam!
    - Keep a positive attitude. You are likely to fail a few times before you learn the ropes.

I would take a pay cut to work at home if my job offered that.

Another thing to consider is that you’d probably be saving money anyway by not having to commute, not eating lunch out, coffee, maybe saving on clothes and dry cleaning costs, etc.

It is wonderful to work from home, but you need to discipline your self if ever going to get anything done.

I would want to see that research about taking some pay cuts to work at home. People will be more productive if their homes are managed well and kids are ok and sometimes parents need to come home earlier to make sure everything is ok.
This may apply to moms more than to dads.

I must support the idea to work at home you may have to take some pay cut. At least it is those kind of jos that you are likely to find.

  8. I can honestly say I would take a pay cut in a heartbeat. There is nothing greater than working from home around your children’s needs.

Children grow up entirely too fast and the majority of your life will be spent without them in the home. Why not be there as much as possible for them?

I work from home, have a successful business and income and I love doing what I do. I still fit in the children, their sports, their doctor’s appointments etc but all on my terms. It’s wonderful to have freedom.
