An Aetna spokesman says the company is training workers in its Dover, Delaware claim center to work from home.
The center has 169 employees who process claims and service national accounts. Spokesman Walt Cherniak said this week that having people work from home will allow the company to retain staff and reduce real estate costs.
Cherniak says a majority of those people are on the phone with customers. He says a small number of employees will not make the transition.
The training will be completed by November before the building’s lease expires in December. The company has housed claims and service workers there for 15 years.
Cherniak also says employees will likely receive any needed hardware for working at home from Aetna.
