Today I’ve received three emails offering me a work at home job. Imagine my surprise when I saw who it was from… ME! Apparently someone is using my email address to send out their spam messages.

The subject lines were: “Hi!”, “Vacancy #761″ and “Re: Offer 947″. If you get an email that looks like it’s from me with a similar subject line, just delete it! They are NOT from me. This is the same money laundering scam that I’ve written about a couple of times.

Here’s a copy of one of them:

If you are willing to receive details about this vacancy and our enterprise, don’t hesitate to e-mail me Jenifer@somecompany.net

Obviously, it wasn’t really from “somecompany.net”, I just don’t want to put the email address in this post. Anyway, I did a domain lookup on the domain in the email and it’s registered to someone in Russia. I can assure you that I’m not located in Russia.

Two out of the three emails were identical and the third was similar. So, how can you know if an email is really from me? Because every email that I send out to my subscribers contains my contact information, including my mailing address (I live in Fort Bragg, California). I also personalize the Help Desk area at the bottom of each message with the name your subscribed with. So, just check for that. If it’s not there, it’s not from me.
