We’re only a few weeks into the new year but many of us may already be falling back into our routines and losing focus of our New Year’s resolutions. If changing your career or starting a new one is on your 2011 New Year’s Resolution List, below are a few simple tips to help you stay focused and accomplish your goal:
1. Capitalize on what you love. The key to success in business is to choose to do something you love that capitalizes on your strengths. Make a list of your talents and pair them with your passion to create a career that suits your life.
2. Build a team of experts. You can’t possibly be an expert at everything. To compensate for your lack of knowledge, create a Board of Directors comprised of individuals who have the skill and information, and experience in the industry or business area you’re interested in.
3. Maximize your time. If you have limited hours in the day to focus on your new business, create a weekly To Do list and set out to accomplish at least one to three tasks on that list each day or week. With each small step you’ll gain more confidence to move forward.
4. Be patient. Even if you’re passionate about your chosen path, success comes with patience and persistence. Building a business takes time and effort. It’s not ‘overnight success’ for anyone.
