Join me tomorrow for my online radio show, Your Way to Work At Home. It airs live Fridays at 1pm EST (10am PST) on 411Voices.

Sara Sutton Fell, CEO of Flexjobs

Sara Sutton Fell, CEO of Flexjobs

The idea for FlexJobs came about in 2007 by Sara Sutton Fell, an experienced entrepreneur who at the time was pregnant with her first child. She had started looking at flexible work arrangements for herself, and discovered how challenging it was to find something (a) legitimate and (b) in-line with her career.

In her almost 15 years in high-tech (including as co-founder of entry-level job service JobDirect which was sold to Korn|Ferry International), Sara knew that good flextime and telecommuting positions did exist. So instead of giving up, she thought about it and realized that there was an opportunity amidst her frustration. Empowered by her passion for the idea and her previous experience in the job services industry, Sara decided to create what she had been looking for – a clean, professional, well-designed job site dedicated to providing only the best, most legitimate telecommuting, part-time, flextime, and freelance jobs. And of course, she started it from her home office!

We’ll be talking about what kinds of telecommute jobs are available and how to get them, how to recognize and avoid scams and whatever else comes up.

Have a question for Sara? Give us a call at (619) 639-4656.

Join us live tomorrow Friday, August 12th at 1pm EST (10am PST) on 411Voices.

  1. I called this number early today and Sara point out some good jobs that were hiring. I really like her personality and all. Thank you for sharing this post because I would have never known.

Hi, I’m a bit frustrated so please forgive me. I am in real bad shape right now as I’m about to get evicted with my 3 pets. I haven’t listend to her message as yet, cause I just came upon this before I was going to bed, and since I’m real tired and have to get up for work tomorrow I wouldn’t be able to give it my best attention. But I’ll do it with coffee in the morning. I just thought I’d ask this to her even before I listen to her message. I’m 54 yrs old a new widow, in financial difficulties to the max like everyone else is I’m sure. I’m nothing special or new accept being a child of the King, but I don’t wish to go homeless again. Surfed that and not long ago. I just wanted to know if there was such a thing as a REAL TRUE work at home job, for FREE I could start like tomorrow, that would start bringing me in money so I could tell my Landlady to hold off another week before throwing me out. I already have 2 evictions, but she likes me and she’s really bending over backwards for me. She knows I just lost my spouse of 15 years, she knows I’m going disabled and sees me go to and from work and church and knows I’m trying to just make it. Please let me know that for all the years I’ve tried to find an online biz, that it hasn’t been in vain. It’s not all scams is it? I have no money to buy into anything right now, I only have my experience and my talent. I type 90 wpm, 8600 ks data entry, 30 yrs customer service and sales, pr, editing, proofreading writing, want to get into writing books, have already started one recently. I used to edit the reporters copies for the Miami Herald many years ago as I’m from florida, and would love to be a columnist or a dear Ann Landers kind of thing or format. If someone would give me a chance I could show what I’m made of. Anyhow, please email me to let me know there is hope and the hope is sooner than I think, before I completely go all depressed and jump off the nearest cliff (I’m a christian I won’t be doing that). Thanks and God Bless

    Hi Crystal,

Most of the work at home jobs I see fall into one of these categories:
    Sales
    Programming/Graphic Design
    Transcription
    Translation
    Writing
    Customer Service

You’ll find the work at home job listings at my site.

There are listings of companies that hire homebased customer service agents, Data entry and transcription jobs.

It sounds like you have some good skills that lend themselves well to telecomuting. You might also look at a freelance site like oDesk, where you can bid on contract jobs.

I hope this is helpful. Best of luck.
    Sharon
