An 'independent contractor' merely means you are not an employee where things like your workspace, time, etc. are covered by employment laws and proper taxes taken out of your pay check. You can be an independent contractor to as many places as you want and can continue as long as you fulfill your duties to them. The only reason I can think of that you couldn't work for both is if they are competitors (and I personally don't know if they are). As an independent contractor you are responsible for paying the proper taxes to the proper entity (in US the federal income tax, state and city taxes) and this may mean you need to be paying quarterly installments to the proper entity all year and not waiting for April 15th and expect that things will work themselves out.

the lionbridge internet assessors role is a great job. But dont underestimate the difficulty in passing the exam. Dont leave it to the last minute to complete and make sure you understand the guidelines before you start. If you do this you have a great oppurtrunity to join. The nature of the work is not constant but as long as you consistently work when work is available you will be fine. Quality is very important to them so following the instructions is important. As long as you meet their productivity levels you will have no problem with payment. Highly recommend if you can get into the program.
You cannot work for both companies.
BTW - Leapforce are only in the US. Lionbridge are international which does not surprise me looking at the comments left on leapforce.

Can you work for both companies simultaneously? I am in the process of applying to both. I assume I would have to pick one, but they both want an "independent contractor", so I am not clear exactly how independent I get to be.

If I do have to decide I am having some trouble. Leapforce is much quicker in their responses, but Lionbridge seems to have a better reputation with former employees.

Mandy, can you give me more info on why Leapforce is a waste? I am in the midst of completing the practical exam for them and I'm really hoping I'm not wasting my time. I was denied by Lionbridge because of the state I live in (as were several other people I know).

Anyone have a good experience with Leapforce?

Hi Lisa, definitely check out Lionbridge. Their C.O.O. is going to be a guest on my radio show on March 12th from 8-9am PST. It will air on Toginet Radio.

I'm fairly new here but might check Lionbridge out. After being at home for almost 3 1/2 years after being laid off end of 2006, I am at my wits end. I'm either told I am over qualified or I don't get a call back at all from applying to a job online. It's difficult and frustrating most days but I just keep thinking positive and my hobby writing has kept my sanity together. I have been free lance writing for newspapers and other publications in my County since 2003. Though I don't get paid, the experience will benefit me in time hopefully here in obtaining more writing jobs that will pay. Thanks Sharon for all you do.

Hi George, what makes you say that? I know many people who work for Lionbridge. I'll be having their C.O.O. on my radio show in March, so you may be interested in tuning in for that.

Lionbridge is a much better company to depend on, than Leapforce. I have worked for both companies, and Leapforce is a complete waste of time and they are very unlikely to have tasks available for us. DON'T DO IT!!
