Also offering home based positions is Lionbridge. Lionbridge is looking for Internet Assessors. From their website:
Based in over 54 countries worldwide throughout Asia, Africa, Europe and North and South America, the Lionbridge Rater Program is an opportunity for all types of people to earn money and assist in achieving the main objective of the program: the continuous improvement and quality of internet search capability. To achieve this, we have a search relevance program management team based at our European solution center in Ballina, Ireland who manage a Global Rater Team of over 1,500 people. The team also manages rater recruitment, pre and post examination support, payments, rater education and training, as well as productivity feedback to ensure successful candidates reach their full potential as a member of the Global Rater Team.
The Rater role involves evaluating results of a web search, for appropriateness to search query input. Participants will be required to provide their opinion of the result displayed based on a set of guidelines we provide. Hours of work are flexible. The recommended hours of work are 10-20 hours per week. Interested candidates must first successfully complete an exam before being accepted into the Rating Program. The exam consists of two sections: Section 1 has 24 theory questions and Section 2 consists of 270 practical exams. More detailed information will be provided in the study material.
You can apply to Lionbridge here.

Hi
I am a well organised hardworking woman, and desperately looking for a work from home position.I am in the middle of a divorce and have two kids to care for, PLEASE IF SOMEONE CAN HELP ME WITH LEADS FOR REAL LEGITAMATE WORK, WITH NO START UP FEE!!!
Thank you
Kitty
lionbridge is real/…..they pay good money…try it…no start up fee………
Hi,
My resume’s been accepted by Lionbridge and I’m on the brink of starting the application process.
BUT, since I’ve heard it’s really long, and since I’m already working a full-time job while searching for another, I really don’t want to do the whole process only to be offered a really crummy salary.
PLEASE, can anyone tell me how much Lionbridge pays their internet assessors and whether this fee is drastically different for people in different places.
Also, is it by hour? Any info about the actual salary would be great!
@ Ian: I don’t know, but there is a forum over at WAHM.com just for Google Quality Raters. My guess is that LB has a non-disclosure agreement though. You might be able to find out at what point in the process you will be given pay rate information. I do know that after your 2-part test you have a conference call where you can ask any questions you may have.
LionBridge is good to work for. I did it for a about a year. Just decided to move on to other things.
Pay is decent, but it is international money transfer, which your bank will charge for. (It cannot be a credit union). So you have a deduction for that. In my case, Wachovia was charging 25$ each time, so if you only worked 25 hours that month, I would have lost 1$ an hour in pay technically.
Just an FYI
I think they pay $14.50 and hour.
Leapforce pay is about $13.50 US. But I am finding their tool to track time worked leaves much to be desired. So far I am only getting paid for half the time I worked because their tool is timing out during half my work session.
Have you addressed this with Leapforce Arlene?
I think they pay $13.00/hour.
I’ve read posts from several people that it is impossible to talk to anyone from Leapforce. I’ve snooped around and it seems that the only way to get the attention of any humans at Leapforce is to start a blog talking smack about them.
Anyone out there working for Lionbridge as independent consultant having a hard time getting paid? I received my first paycheck on time but should have received my 2nd paycheck last week and no payment yet. I’ve written several emails but no reply… just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with late/no payment as an independent contractor. Please help, I don’t know if they plan to pay me!
I just completed my application with Lionbridge. But it didn’t give me the two part test that I have heard about. Is that something that you take once your application has been accepted? Can anyone tell me a little more about what you do as far as work for Lionbridge?
They do not have a good reputation with how they treat their contractors. Are there any humans at this company? You never talk to or excuse receive an email from a named person at this company. Before you waste time taking exams with them and then being fired after a few weeks of work, research them thoroughly online and with the Better Business Bureau website.
I have ZERO problems with LionBridge. Actually if you do your job and keep up on your hours you will be just fine. The people who do not rate correctly (lazy raters) and do not work the 10 hours a week are the ones that may be warned or let go.
There are no more bank fees since they now deposit directly or the US raters.
I also work with LionBridge and I think it’s great. I’m currently a stay at home mom so it’s nice to bring in a little money myself every month. I also know a few other ladies who work for them as well who are all a fan of the company.
That’s great to hear. I will be having the COO of Lionbridge on my radio show in March.
Lionbridge is a much better company to depend on, than Leapforce. I have worked for both companies, and Leapforce is a complete waste of time and they are very unlikely to have tasks available for us. DON’T DO IT!!
Both companies are scams! Steer clear of both.
Hi George, what makes you say that? I know many people who work for Lionbridge. I’ll be having their C.O.O. on my radio show in March, so you may be interested in tuning in for that.
I’m fairly new here but might check Lionbridge out. After being at home for almost 3 1/2 years after being laid off end of 2006, I am at my wits end. I’m either told I am over qualified or I don’t get a call back at all from applying to a job online. It’s difficult and frustrating most days but I just keep thinking positive and my hobby writing has kept my sanity together. I have been free lance writing for newspapers and other publications in my County since 2003. Though I don’t get paid, the experience will benefit me in time hopefully here in obtaining more writing jobs that will pay. Thanks Sharon for all you do.
Hi Lisa, definitely check out Lionbridge. Their C.O.O. is going to be a guest on my radio show on March 12th from 8-9am PST. It will air on Toginet Radio.
Mandy, can you give me more info on why Leapforce is a waste? I am in the midst of completing the practical exam for them and I’m really hoping I’m not wasting my time. I was denied by Lionbridge because of the state I live in (as were several other people I know).
Anyone have a good experience with Leapforce?
Can you work for both companies simultaneously? I am in the process of applying to both. I assume I would have to pick one, but they both want an “independent contractor”, so I am not clear exactly how independent I get to be.
If I do have to decide I am having some trouble. Leapforce is much quicker in their responses, but Lionbridge seems to have a better reputation with former employees.
the lionbridge internet assessors role is a great job. But dont underestimate the difficulty in passing the exam. Dont leave it to the last minute to complete and make sure you understand the guidelines before you start. If you do this you have a great oppurtrunity to join. The nature of the work is not constant but as long as you consistently work when work is available you will be fine. Quality is very important to them so following the instructions is important. As long as you meet their productivity levels you will have no problem with payment. Highly recommend if you can get into the program.
You cannot work for both companies.
BTW – Leapforce are only in the US. Lionbridge are international which does not surprise me looking at the comments left on leapforce.
An ‘independent contractor’ merely means you are not an employee where things like your workspace, time, etc. are covered by employment laws and proper taxes taken out of your pay check. You can be an independent contractor to as many places as you want and can continue as long as you fulfill your duties to them. The only reason I can think of that you couldn’t work for both is if they are competitors (and I personally don’t know if they are). As an independent contractor you are responsible for paying the proper taxes to the proper entity (in US the federal income tax, state and city taxes) and this may mean you need to be paying quarterly installments to the proper entity all year and not waiting for April 15th and expect that things will work themselves out.
