On Thursday my hubby lived a dream of playing baseball at AT&T park where the Giants play. Not because he’s a big Giants fan, but because it was totally cool to play on a major league ball field.
He plays in a men’s hardball league every Sunday and let me clue you in to how much he loves to play… This league is in Santa Rosa, which is over 2 hours away from where we live and you have to drive 45 minutes over a very windy road just to get out of our town. Sometimes he even goes to the midweek practices too, although fuel costs have certainly cut that down (actually I can’t remember the last time he did that come to think).
We all go to his games, it’s a family event every Sunday. Of course, I always work in some serious shopping because we don’t have malls or a Target in Fort Bragg.
So, anyway when he got this opportunity to play at AT&T park, needless to say it was very exciting. My oldest daughter and her boyfriend came home so they could come with us (they live about 3 hours north of us where they go to Humboldt State). It’s about a 3 1/2 hour drive to San Francisco. When we got there, Roy signed in and we headed for our seats. They had three sections roped off for us- right behind home plate and the 2 sections to the left and right of that. We sat right up front, just to the left of home plate (Roy is the catcher, so I wanted to have the best view of him).
The guys names were up on the scoreboard and there was an announcer. What a thrill it must have been to step up to the plate and hear, “now batting, number 6, Roy Davis”!
It was a good, close game. Lots of hitting. Roy did great, 2 for 3 with a single and a double. The guys were sliding all over the place, even sliding into first, just because they could. It was fun.
I’m so glad that I can play hooky pretty much whenever I want so that I can do stuff like this!
