Where I live and work

When I write, I often talk about where I live. The reason for that is because it is such a place of beauty, sometimes I can’t believe that I live here.

I was born and raised in Southern California and I loved it there, but once we had children we just felt that we wanted to be in a place more conducive to raising a family. After much research we narrowed our choices down to a handful. We knew we wanted to be in Northern California, near the ocean and it had to be a small, tight-knit community.

Fort Bragg was one of that handful. To get there, you have a choice of a really, really windy road off Highway 101, or another really, really windy road off the 101. Either way you go, it is such a beautiful drive you hardly notice all the cars pulled to the side for a vomit break. As we wound our way through towering redwoods, feathery ferns and wild sweet peas I had a feeling of excitement; had we found our new home?

When we hit Highway 1 at the coast we were looking at the most beautiful, picture-perfect view. That’s when I knew. We were going to live here someday.

It wasn’t easy. In fact my husband was unable to get a transfer for two years and was only home on the weekends. But eventually it worked out. We’ve been here for almost ten years now and haven’t looked back.
